Membership in the Skidaway Marine Science Foundation is open to everyone, and the Foundation boasts members from as far away as Alaska, Arizona, and Michigan.
The Foundation supports the campus partners in several ways, including assisting college students who intern on campus; providing funds for activities not normally covered by tight governmental budgets; and generating public and political support for the campus partners. In the future, the Foundation hopes to get involved in more ambitious projects such as raising funds for much-needed scientific equipment and capital improvements.
Foundation members are entitled to:
- A subscription to the Skidaway Campus Notes Newsletter (3x/year)
- Free admission to the MECA public aquarium(for immediate family with a membership at the "family" level)
- An invitation to all public lectures and programs presented by the campus institutions
- Free admission and preferred seating at the Gray's Reef National Marine Sanctuary Ocean Film Festival (held annually in the fall)
- An invitation to campus educational programs and science seminars
- An invitation to all Foundation-sponsored social events
While the tangible benefits of SMSF membership are modest, the intangible benefits are not. Members know that they are suporting leading edge research into areas of science that are vital to the future of our planet. They also support the science education of students at levels ranging from kindergarten to Ph.D.
Membership levels for 2010 are:
Student/Military -- $25
Individual - $50
Family - $100
Corporate - $500
Benefactor - $1,000
Scholarship -- $2,000
